Many thanks to Mitch Postel for his erudite and informative presentation on the early history of The Rotary Club of San Mateo. Our club was the first one on the Peninsula and was chartered on January 25, 1924, with 18 founding members. The Club's charter stated the purpose was "to render unselfish service to the community...in accordance with its motto: 'He profits most who serves best'." The motto has served San Mateo well over the past 98 years. Any ideas on how to celebrate our centennial when it arrives in 2024?
OCTOBER 7TH MEETING RECAP
Thanks to John Barrett for leading the Pledge - it's great to have him joining us weekly. If you haven't yet returned in person, we'd love to see you, too. Bob Fitzgerald gave an engaging account of his recent stint covering the Tokyo Olympics. He noted how safe he felt while in Japan. The 11,000 participants had to test frequently for COVID. How many positive test results were there? Only 22 - all were unvaccinated. Did you know Water Polo actually began with players riding on barrels in a swimming pool and carrying mallets to hit the ball? Almost like real polo!
