She manages 2 hospitals with over 270 beds total servicing over 250,000 members. A graduate of Univ of Michigan, she has wide ranging experience in the business of health care, and joined Kaiser because she believes in the model of prepaid care with emphasis on preventative care.
Kaiser was founded when Industrialist Henry Kaiser contracted with Dr Sidney Garfield to arrange total health care for his employees for a prepaid fixed fee. Kaiser does 118 thousand births, one million mammograms, 4 million colonoscopies, 11 million mental health visits. "Value based care" is a focus on good outcomes. Doctors take the lead in decision-making in consultation with the patients. Members are 33% less likely to suffer premature cardiac death than other patients. Kaiser has received many awards including best maternity hospital and stroke intervention service. They partner with the SF Warriors...and donate over $900 thousand for community charity
