19 Students in The Effect
Hillsdale and CSM Middle college students spoke of family heritage, impacting the community, learning of a different culture, and having a hands-on experience.
The Effect (formerly Hillsdale Effect) began in 2009. Rotarian Brian Sullivan recruited Dan Leydig and Greg Lance. They have worked with 127 students raising a total of $253,000...some by collecting loose change.
They work with Namaste Direct to fund $300 loans to women in Guatemala who run small personal businesses...selling cooked food, woven crafts etc. The loans are repaid in 9 mo. Thousands of women have had benefits including classes in business, and paid experienced mentors.
Students...and Rotarians...go to Antigua Guatemala yearly to have the first hand experience.
