District Governor Laine Hendricks attended the Club's board meeting and spoke to the Club on August 29th. She let the Club know of RI President Gordon's emphasis on addressing mental health and shared her personal experiences with making sure support is available when a mental health crisis occurs. DG Laine noted the District 5150 theme for the year is Connect and reminded us of RI's theme of Create Hope in the World. DG Laine commented on how the two are inter-related: "People feel hope when they're connected."
DG Laine concluded her presentation with these suggestions for San Mateo Rotarians as they work to Connect and Create Hope in the World:
Be Proud
Take Big Leaps
Do Great Things

a must read highlighted the newscast
Juliana Fuerbringer posed a question to rotarians as part of her newscast: what novel published in 1960 has mental health as a vital theme? juliana had the book in a bag & eventually someone guessed to kill a mockingbird by harper lee. juliana pulled a copy out of the bag and commented we usually associate the book with its story of racial injustice, but through boo radley's character, mental health is also an important theme. thanks to juliana for a thought-provoking newscast - we may all need to reread this harper lee classic!
