WITH APPRECIATION FROM THE STUDENTS OF LEAD ACADEMY!!!
President-Elect Joan Rosas recently received an envelope filled with thank you drawings and notes from the 3rd grade students and teachers of LEAD Academy in which they expressed their appreciation to the Rotary Club of San Mateo. The students drew pictures of themselves with their new dictionaries or illustrated new words and topics they had excitedly explored.
The creator of the picture above on the left said, "Thank you very much for the dictionary. I was very happy. I can't wait to learn about butterflies."
Another student wrote, "Thank you, thank you! I was very excited to get my new dictionary. I can't wait to use it for history."
3rd Grade Teachers Lisa Hawkins and Maria Lepe noted, "Our students were so excited to receive their brand new dictionaries. Their favorite parts so far are the flag section, world maps, and any topic related to animals. They have been using them daily to teach their friends and family about new topics and to learn how to spell unfamiliar words. Thank you for making this annual event so special and for providing them with this generous gift that they will cherish for many years."
Nice to know the dictionaries are appreciated and being put to such good use! Thank you Rotary Club of San Mateo!

We'll be working with 2nd graders at College Park Elementary as they continue to develop their environmental learning outdoor space on April 19th and May 10th between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. For the first hour we will help students with various planting and weeding projects and when they're dismissed at noon we will work on other projects that are better accomplished by adults. Following Jeff Steinberg's presentation on the Sojourn Project several weeks ago, he visited with the Climate Change Committee at a recent meeting. One of the topics discussed was the possibility of taking San Mateo Rotarians on an upcoming Sojourn Project Civil Rights Trip to the South.

Although a bit murky, the picture shows the Rotary Club of San Mateo's Rotary Reef which is now embedded in the floor of the Caribbean off of Panama. Thanks to the generosity of Mitch Williams, our Rotary Reef has been installed to commemorate Rotary International's first woman president, Jennifer Jones, and to honor our very own President Dick! It will take a while for the ecosystem to adapt to the presence of the new structure, but stay tuned for upcoming pictures when the coral begin to populate the reef. Stay tuned!
