Heather Cleary & Past President Kitty Lopez proudly display their table's winning answer sheet from the August 6th Olympics Trivia Contest. President Joan memorialized the table's gold medal status by framing their record-setting answer sheet for posterity. Not quite sure what happened to it following the meeting, though. Perhaps each team-mate will take it home for a month to proudly display in an appropriate spot while hoping to repeat their gold medal win for the 2026 Winter Olympics ?
From Gold Medals to the Golden Gate
President Joan decided to try another trivia contest, but this time focused on the Golden Gate Bridge since the August 13th speaker was none other than David Rivera, Deputy General Manager of the Golden Gate Bridge. Table groups again got to display their vast knowledge of Golden Gate Bridge trivia. When the dust settled, three table groups were awarded See's Candy in a box adorned with...a beautiful rendering of the Golden Gate Bridge!
what do Past Presidents do?
What's a debunked Club President to do? Pass out birthday cake, of course! Past President John graciously cut & distributed birthday cake to our August Birthdays at the August 13th meeting. He also joined the President's Club because of his connection to the Golden Gate Bridge. His family's construction company did the steel work for the bridge.
Calming Rooms?
Past President Bruce Bean introduced Leo Kahlenberg to the Club on August 13th. Leo advocates installing Calming Rooms at schools to provide students with a quiet place to decompress and deal with stress so they can recharge & refocus on their studies. He and his classmates at JFK High School installed a Calming Room to ease the stress of returning to school following COVID. It's been so successful they hope other schools will follow suit.
The Remnants
President John did such a masterful job of making sure all birthday celebrants received their pieces of birthday cake, this is all that was left. Many thanks to Carey Gorgolinski for always making Rotary birthdays so special! Hope the September birthday crew is eagerly awaiting a birthday serenade from their fellow members as well as....cake! Perhaps Past President John will repeat his cake cutting duties then?
Bo Whitehill
Bo's family will be hosting a celebration of life on Sunday, September 8, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Peninsula Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peninsula Humane Society.
