President Anne Campbell returned to the podium after a European trip. She noted that she felt like she was on Greenland time.

The thought of the day was given by Bob Binn. He reminded us that they were 35,000 Rotary clubs around the world. Rotary international provides worldwide hope, aide, and comfort. For example the International program
WASH is an acronym for water/sanitation/hygiene, and provides clean water to communities around the world. “Service above Self” is not just a motto but a way of life.
Mike Claire has a new post as acting chancellor of the community college District. Taking his place as acting president of the College of San Mateo was his guest Kim Lopez.

Bob Campbell was welcomed back and joined the presidents club.
Several other guests were welcomed.

Alan Talansky highlighted the Rotary Fun Run in 10 days Oct 20 Sunday 9am at Seal Point Park on the bay.

Martin Harband gave the newscast. A joke about sailors exchanging dirty underwear reminded us that change is not always better. The old-timers in the Rotary club can appreciate a joke about an old timer asking “do I come here often?”
A child asking the grandfather to make a noise like a frog was explained with the family saying that they would go to Disneyland after grandpa croaked.

Rosemary Azem with laryngitis reminded us to buy raffle tickets for Rotary international funding.
There is a Sonoma winery International Foundation dinner Nov 16 and Anne would love to have company attending.

Paul and Linda Rogerville were awarded Paul Harris Fellowship plaques and lapel pins.

Peter Webb was given Leonides chocolates by Pres Anne for running last weeks meeting in her absence.

Martin Harband introduced the program speaker, Rotarian Ross Moilan, the District Manager of the Bayshore Cal Water Service. Ross is a former policeman and loves classic cars and motorcycles.
The Bayshore water district services San Mateo, South San Francisco, San Carlos, Broadmoor and parts of Redwood city and Daly City with 100,000 customer connections and 47 employees and hundreds of miles of pipeline. The average customer uses 7480 gallons per month.
Our water is delivered from the San Francisco Public Utilities from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir via aqueduct and pipelines. Extensive test show our water is consistently pure and safe. 1 in 4 people in the US have unsafe water.
Our water company devotes millions to replace piping, maintain redundant systems in case of disaster, and keep the system secure.
Rates are set by an independent public board every 3 years.
To save money go to
to see rebates on replacement toilets and clothes washers.
Ross’s program shows again how some of San Mateo’s best programs are presented by our members.
