Spinnings - Week of August 25, 2022

What's your perfect summer day?

Bet you didn't know Barb has a new role as President Dick's official Director of Member Experiences! She orchestrated what is sure to be one of the more memorable meetings of President Dick's year. Beach balls & watermelon! What's not to like?  She also helped expand President Dick's fine budget by selling the beach balls.
Nick Rogers won the award for most competitive Beach Ball Volleyball player as he spiked a ball with great gusto & managed to accomplish a Six Pack!!! (For those of you not well-versed in volleyball terminology - he managed to hit a fellow
Rotarian on the head with a beach ball.)   Nick graciously bought almost all of the beach balls & presented one to his victim who accepted with a smile.
District 5150 Governor Gary Chow and Assistant Governor Mark Watson joined us to witness the beach ball mayhem as well as to share the District 5150 goals for the Rotary Year.  RI President Jennifer Jones has selected "Imagine Rotary" as this year's RI theme and Governor Gary has selected "Be the Change" for District 5150's theme.   President Gary also distributed a District 5150 Resource Guide so we'll know who to call when we need help...Ghostbusters anyone?
San Mateo Rotarians were treated to a Perfect Summer Day theme at the August 18th meeting.  Barb Evers organized an opportunity for Rotarians to share their idea of a perfect summer day - an activity made all the more interesting by a spirited game of beachball volleyball and sweetened by delicious watermelon slices for all.

Governor Gary provided an overview of District 5150 goals & activities for the year ahead and provided each Rotarian with this year's RI and District 5150 pins.  "Be the Change" will be this year's District 5150 theme. Governor Gary explained Kurt Lewin's Force Field Theory of Change which says when we set goals there are some forces that move us on a positive path toward achieving those goals and other forces that move us away from them. The key is to identify the forces and then add more positive forces while removing the negative ones.
