MAY 11, 2017 MEETING

Chuck Osborn led the Pledge.

June Lamb's thought of the day: if you don't love your work, ask yourself why you don't love what you do and go do what you love.

Peter Webb gave the a not so fine example of "fake news," advising students on taking exam.

John deRussey reported that all is well in Sunshine Land.

Nanci Nishimura introduced visiting Rotarians, Mike Hefferman from Burlingame and Dr. Nicole Cherok from Foster City. And Nick Rogers introduced his guest, Tom Seaney.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Car Show

Nick Rogers invited everyone to bring guests to the 5th Annual Scholarship Car Show on May 18th at 11:30 AM at Poplar. Come see the cars, or come for the BBQ.

Black Jacket Presentation

Steve McDonald (2016 champion) transferred the black blazer to Steve Fick, winner of this year's Black Flag Golf Tournament.

Rotary Vocational Day

Dave Bennett reminded that Poplar Creek will be dark on May 25th. Rotarians are to encourage to visit host businesses between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

John Root spoke of the importance of the Scholarship Program. The scholarship awards are not only important financially, but they are an affirmation of the students' hard work. Some of the recipients will be the first in their families to strive for higher education, some have been in this country and learned English only a few years, and some have changed their negative behavior to a positive mindset.

Sue Lempert, with the help of Matt Lau, presented the 2017 scholarship awards to the Community College Scholarship Recipients, and Margaret Taylor presented the awards to the 4-Year College Scholarship Recipients.
