This meeting highlighted "The Effect" which is a San Mateo Rotary outreach project that centers on micro loans of several hundred dollars made to Guatemalan women who want to create a business such as making clothing articles or selling produce etc. Students from Hillsdale High School and CSM Middle College participate in raising funds and traveling to Guatemala for first hand experience.
We met eight of these students. Greg Lance and Sarah Press are faculty leaders. Also going to Guatemala in June are Brian Sullivan and Don Leydig who founded The Effect 15 years ago...also going are 5 other Rotarians.
