Centennial Planning arrived during our September 8th meeting. Attendees had the chance to chime in on how to celebrate our Centennial during the 2023-24 Rotary year. President Dick, President-Elect John, Mitch Postel, Don Shoecraft, and Jeff Lowenstein shared information about the Rotary Club of San Mateo's upcoming Centennial. A slide show of memorable Rotary moments over the years was displayed, accompanied by a rousing old-time Rotary song recorded long ago. (Go to the link below to listen!) Rotarians participated in table group discussions as they brainstormed possible activities for the centennial year. Mitch will be returning with a summary of the activities suggested and a proposal for the 2023-24 Rotary year. Stay tuned!
As we continue to learn ways to combat Climate Change, Laura Porter shared tips for Sustainable Shopping. She noted we can use our wallets as a powerful way to change our current linear economy into a circular economy. This is important because our purchases make an impact on the environment.
Did you know the average American produces 4.9 lbs of trash per day? Plastic takes 10 to 1,000 years to decompose? 90% of table salt has detectable amounts of micro plastics?

Research companies & look for environmental certifications, e.g. 1% for the Planet, B Corp, MBE:WNE
Mitch Postel presented Claudia Ferguson with her red badge as she becomes our Club's newest member. Claudia is Senior Vice President - Relationship Banking at Heritage Bank of Commerce. She and her husband, Keith, have two children: Danika who is 24 and Devin who is 21.
Getting more involved in our local community drew Claudia to Rotary. She looks forward to connecting with other Rotarians through community service so next time you see Claudia at Rotary, be sure to introduce yourself!
