happy year of the tiger!

Spinnings for February 10, 2022

February 3rd provided opportunities to welcome new members, learn about San Mateo Rotary Foundation funding, and develop our wine tasting skills!   A good time was had by all!

President-Elect Dick gives a permanent badge to Rashida who waited through-
out the Pandemic to relinquish her red badge!
Mike Peterson & Sheila Canzian
welcome Mike Fadelli
of Serra as our newest member.
David Glancy & Kristin Campbell  toast the Rotary Club of San Mateo!
Our membership continues to grow! President-Elect Dick gave Rashida Lilani a permanent badge - her red badge weighs her down no more!
Mike Fadelli, Chief Advancement Officer at Serra High School, received his red badge from Mike Peterson & Sheila Canzian.  Sheila revealed she had been on hand to welcome Mike F. home from the hospital when he arrived in the world.  Her parents served as Mike's godparents!

Jeff Lowenstein gave an informative presentation on San Mateo Rotary Foundation Funding.  Did you know our Foundation currently has about $1.8 million in its coffers to support Scholarship and Community Funding?  This year $72,000 from the Foundation will be devoted to scholarships.  This will be augmented by funds raised from the Fun Run, Car Show, and Scholarship Club. We hope to give a total of $145,000 to scholarships.  So, when the Scholarship Club fundraiser rolls around this spring, remember to give generously!  Our club will also provide $28,500 from the Foundation for Community Grants which will be supplemented by the President's Club, ad hoc fundraisers, and district funding, resulting in about $40,000 for Community Grants.

Whew!  After all that math Master Sommelier David Glancy & Kristin Campbell of the San Francisco Wine School walked us through the joys of a blind wine tasting.  Thanks to our resident winemaker, Paul Rogerville, we had the opportunity to try our skills at identifying the qualities of Bottle A & Bottle B.  It was nice to learn from David that wine tasting is basically a process of deductive reasoning.  What a great way to rationalize enjoying fine wine!

A reminder to wear red or pink to our February 10th meeting!
